Description

In a radio interview, Bobby Fischer said, "This set is the best I've ever played on. He's amazing."

An entire Wikipedia article is devoted to these legendary chess games.

In 1950, the 9th Chess Olympiad was held, organized by FIDE and the Government of Yugoslavia with the support of Josip Broz Tito. The Olympiad was held in Dubrovnik (modern Croatia) from August 20 to September 11, 1950. The chess pieces were presented without religious symbols. The pieces were designed to be played with wide bases, requiring a minimum of 55 millimeters on each square of the chessboard. They had green felt sliders. Original sets are either impossible or very difficult to find or buy.

Fischer owned a 1950 Dubrovnik chess set, which he kept in a locked safe. This set was subsequently sold by a warehouse company to pay an overdue storage bill. The set was returned to Fischer by a collector after he requested it for the 1992 rematch between Fischer and Spassky, which took place in Sveti Stefan.
