THIS BOOK HAS TAUGHT TWO GENERATIONS OF CHESS PLAYERS HOW TO PLAY FORCEFULLY AND INTELLIGENTLY. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, ABOLUTE NOVIES AT THE GAME AND SKILLED PLAYERS ALIKE, HAVE PROFITED FROM CHESS STRATEGY WITH SUCH FAMOUS GRANDMASTERS AS PAUL KERES AND REUBEN FINE ACCLAIMING IT AS THE WORK WHICH FIRST SHOWED THEM THE WAY TO SUCCESSFUL CHESS. THE UNIQUE QUALITY OF CHESS STRATEGY IS THAT IT TEACHES YOU GENERAL STRATEGIC PRINCIPLES RATHER THAN HAVING YOU MEMORIZE HIGHLY DETAILED ANALYSES. THE AMATEUR CAN LEARN TO PLAY WELL ONLY IF HE HAS A TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF THE NATURE OF THE GAME, SO THAT HE MAY JUDGE WHY EACH MOVE SHOULD OR SHOULD BE MADE. ILLUSTRATIONS AND COMPLETE INSTRUCTION ON STRATEGIES.

This monograph is devoted to one of the actual debuts - the defense of Karo-Kann. Its purpose is to characterize the current state of the system. In the debut monograph of the Honored Coach of the USSR A. Constantinople and journalist A. Veits, one of the popular half-open principles, the defense of Karo-Kann, is explored in detail. Various debut systems are represented in their historical development, illustrated with fragments from the parties of prominent grand masters and masters. Individual parties are listed in the text with permutations of moves, and reservations about this are not always made. In the section of exemplary parties, the various defense systems of Karo-Cann are presented in the interpretation of the classics of chess art - world champions, as well as applicants for this high rank. At a certain stage in the development of the debut, these parties served as examples of strategic and tactical decisions, and even now they are very instructive. It is designed for qualified chess players.

In this book, grandmaster Denis Yevseyev proposes a new way of fighting the French defense: 3. Kd2, followed by placing the pieces according to the Kgf3, Cd3, c3, 0-0 scheme for ANY order of black moves, which sooner or later leads to exchanges in the center and the formation of white isolated pawns. Therefore, the third part of the book is entirely devoted to the study of middle spiel positions with an “insulator” arising on the considered branches of the French defense. Almost the only way to deviate from the game with an “isolator” is the Rubinstein variant (3 ... dхe4), which is thoroughly analyzed in the first part of the book /
