The 2012 World Vice-Champion continues his story, begun in the best-selling books Positional Decision Making in Chess. ("Book of the Year" according to the English Chess Federation), "Dynamic Decision Making in Chess" and "Technical Decision Making in Chess." The new book discusses ways to make decisions in positions without minor pieces. The reader will get acquainted with rook and queen endings, as well as with what Romanovsky called the "fourth stage", that is, the late middlegame / early endgame, where only heavy pieces remain on the board. «Gelfand is very good– and very honest – explains what decisions he was able to calculate and what he had to make on the basis of general reasoning, and how he did it. This resulted in a book of the type that I love. A chess player of any strength can find a lot of useful things here. (Grandmaster Matthew Sadler, reviewer of novelties in chess literature in the magazine "New in Chess"). For a wide range of chess lovers.

«The idea of continuing the autobiographical book “Steps” has been in the air almost since the moment it was written. Despite the bullet point at the end of the book in the form of a victory over Magnus Carlsen, my chess career continued for another full 14 years, and the subsequent stormy socio-political career is only gaining momentum.” (V. Bologan).  The book contains 75 games commented in detail and a number of fragments. A frank story about the life and professional path, about cooperation with the leading grandmasters and coaches of the world (among them - A. Karpov, G. Kasparov, Yu. Polgar, Zhu Chen, R. Ponomarev, A. Shirov, A. Morozevich, A. Onischuk, A. Ryazantsev, E. Inarkiev, M. Al-Mudakhka, M. Dvoretsky, M. Podgaets, V. Chebanenko, Z. The vast majority of opening guides are written for adult readers. This book is also devoted to the theory but it is junior. The structure of the book is simple and attractive: openings are examined using examples from actual games, each of which is presented in the form of a lesson with its own name. Several such lessons form an opening theme, and the examination of each theme concludes with exercises. In each opening, attention is drawn to its characteristic tactical and strategic ideas of combinations for independent solution strictly corresponds to the opening theme. Written in clear and easy language, the book is furnished with a large number of diagrams. Colored explanatory arrows on the diagrams and the selection of individual pages with a colored background make the book easier to understand. Regular work solve two problems: deepen the student's knowledge and develop his tactical vision, thus improving his skill and results.

The book by grandmaster and experienced coach Alexander Galkin is dedicated to the strongest piece on the chessboard – to the queen. Using the example of episodes from games of modern grandmasters (the vast majority of games date back to 2020-2023) and his own grandmaster practice, the author tries to generalize, and in some places even clarify the methodology for understanding and playing queen endings, as well as other types of endgames with the presence of queens ) On the desk. The book presents various ratios of material – “queen against queen”, “queen and minor piece against queen and minor piece”, “queen and rook against queen and rook”, “queen against two rooks”, “queen against rook and pawns”, “ queen against a rook and a minor piece”, “two queens against two queens” – practically the entire spectrum of encountered endgames of this type. The material is structured in such a way that the reader can get maximum benefit from studying the examples of queen endings and its other derivatives offered by the author. The book is aimed at advanced chess players, is useful for coaches and can be recommended to a wide range of chess fans.

The answer book of an international grandmaster and an experienced coach (among whose students is A. Grischuk) Bloch's Maxim contains over 1200 combinations from practical games and specially compiled examples. All tasks are characterized by intense struggle, in which the goal is achieved by single moves. The book is intended for both young and adult amateurs, and for masters. The arrangement of examples by topic allows you to use the book not only as a task book, but also as a textbook. Of particular interest are over two hundred specially compiled by the author overstressed positions in which white wins the only way during the course of white, and black wins during the course of black. These examples, as well as over 50 fragments from the parties of the author and his students, are published for the first time.

This collection of wonderful combinations is based on the famous magazine “Chess” published in the USSR. The editorial office was located in Riga, its members included strong Latvian chess players, and the editor-in-chief of the publication for many years was the eighth world champion Mikhail Tal, who always took an active part in the development of the magazine. Perhaps the most popular section among readers has always been “Find the best continuation without moving the pieces.” A fresh dozen of the most beautiful and instructive combinations, mainly from current tournaments, were published on the back cover, and the solutions were given in the next issue. The combinations were selected by the editorial team very carefully, because the magazine's circulation was more than 60,000 copies and was distributed in more than 50 countries! This edition includes combinations published in the mentioned section from 1980 to 1990. By solving these combinations, you are sure to improve your tactical skills and significantly strengthen your game.

Sosonko & Corner 'Vam shakh, grossmeister' quipped Bobby Fischer before beating specialist Tigran Petrosian in blitz. Genna Sosonko shows in his Corner that a check in the opening can be devastating. The phenomenon seems to gain popularity. Our Editor comes with an entertaining mixture of old and new traps. Alexander Morozevich checked on move 3 in the Philidor in an internet blitz game. It could be lethal in bullet! Book Reviews Two more animals in the chess zoo feature in Glenn Flear & s Reviews: the venerable Bird and the idiosyncratic Hippopotamus. They are contrasted with the mainstream 1.e4 e5 openings and the King's Indian. Being an avid Ruy Lopez player himself, Flear eagerly read Nigel Davies's 'Play 1.e4 e5!' And found that Davies had some nice ideas: 'I might try a few out myself!' a grandmaster reviewer! Flear was also taken by Mikhail Golubev's personal view on the King's in his new book, analysing 56 of his own games. An entertaining, high-quality and original work, writes Flear. 'Rebellious material' and 'weird stuff' we find in Andrew Martin's 'The Hippopotamus Rises'. Our reviewer finds it original, but a little skimpy. Recommended for those who like the Hippopotamus, like to swim in muddy waters ... More thorough is Timothy Taylor's 'Bird's Opening', which is made by Flear Wonder why this 'Dutch with extra tempo' is so rare. Sosonko & Corner Editor Genna Sosonko was leafing through his old notebooks when he came across a venomous novelty he had used in a blitz game against John van der Wiel back in 1987. This provided enough ammunition for an article on the piece sacrifice Nc3-d5 often seen in the English Opening and of course the Sicilian. The final example is by Donner, who once more had his facts wrong. Book Review The ultimate "macho" opening repertoire consists of two openings: the Sicilian Najdorf against 1.e4 and the King & s Indian against everything else. In his previous column the Najdorf came under scrutiny, so it & amp; s somehow appropriate that it & amp; s now the turn of the King & s Indian to receive special attention. Chris Ward, Joe Gallagher and Andrew Martin. Glenn Fear reviews three new KID books by English masters who he has known for longer than he & amp; d care to say: Chris Ward, Joe Gallagher and Andrew Martin.   31 NIC Surveys Yearbook 74 Sicilian Defense: Nameless Variation 5.Bd3, by Fogarasi Sicilian Defense: English Attack, by Stohl Sicilian Defense: Sozin Variation, by Tukmakov Sicilian Defense: Velimirovic Attack, by Van der Weide Sicilian Defense: Sveshnikov Variation, by Morgado Sicilian Defense: Sveshnikov Variation, by Scherbakov Sicilian Defense: Taimanov Variation, by Mortensen Sicilian Defense: Grand Prix Attack, by Scherbakov French Defense: Winawer Variation, by Nikitin Caro-Kann Defense: Pseudo-Panov Attack, by Vilela Caro-Kann Defense: Fantasy Variation, by Gavrilov Scandinavian Defense: Main Line 5 ... NIC Forum YB / 75: Readers from all over the world join in discussions of previous surveys. Both (grand) masters and club players shed their light on new discovery. With contributions by Ruslan Scherbakov and an afterthought by Viktor Kortchnoi, who solves an intriguing riddle around a 1963 game against Matanovic! Sosonko & Corner YB / 75: In this extended column, Genna Sosonko provides us with a bird's eye view of the enormous impact that Garry Kasparov has had on opening theory. From his younger years, through his famous World Championship matches with Karpov, right to his last novelties in Linares 2005. Kasparov's ringtone theory was revolutionary. He used his computer skills. The man from Baku could beat all his rivals with his home preparation, which was an extraordinary broad mixture of modern, ancient and half-forgotten opening lines. Kasparov has stopped playing chess, but his work was able to keep top grandmasters, who can not sit still for one week as it is, busy for years. And like many of his colleagues, Sosonko does not rule out a comeback ... Book Review YB / 75: Supply and demand has motivated a proficient writer Stefan Kindermann to write his 'The Spanish Exchange Variation' in English instead of his mother tongue, as Glenn Flear explains. Admiring its clarity, Flesh regrets that this book is too thin! In Konstantin Sakaev and Semko Semkov's profound ', in the Semi-Slav: ANTI-MERAN, Flear has spotted some amazing insights. And he finds Gary Lane's 'Ideas Behind Modern Chess Openings: Black' more relevant than Lane's version for White. Who could better review 'Play the Sicilian Dragon' by Edward Dear Sergey Tiviakov? Read his expert opinion, but you should read the book first!   33 NIC Surveys Yearbook 75 Sicilian Defense: Moscow Variation 3 ... With contributions by Boris Gelfand, Erwin l & amp; Ami, Geert van der Stricht, Edward Dearing, giving a passionate answer to Sergey Tiviakov & s negative comments on his Dragon book, and many others. Sosonko & Corner This time, Genna Sosonko has a look at 2.Qh5 and other early queen sorties in the opening. Hikaru Nakamura & s hallmark recently. Before, the young US Champion only played this in hundreds of Internet games, albeit against the best. Is this the beginning of a new trend ?, Sosonko wonders. As always, Viktor Kortchnoi gives a clear answer. Book Review Glenn Flear muses on the new phenomenon: the Chess DVD. Despite some reservations, he has to admit that Garry Kasparov (called "Mr. Kasparov", to Flear & s surprise) does win him in the beginning! An ambitious repertoire book for Black by joint authors Alburt, Dzindzichashvili, Perelshteyn and Lawrence is surprisingly comprehensive, logical and cleverly laid out. Tiger Hillarp Persson has published one more "repertoire" book, his is a very sharp one on his pet Modern Defense. A book written with the heart, as is Edward Dearing & s second baby: Challenging the Grunfeld.
