The vast majority of opening guides are written for adult readers. This book is also devoted to the theory but it is junior. The structure of the book is simple and attractive: openings are examined using examples from actual games, each of which is presented in the form of a lesson with its own name. Several such lessons form an opening theme, and the examination of each theme concludes with exercises. In each opening, attention is drawn to its characteristic tactical and strategic ideas of combinations for independent solution strictly corresponds to the opening theme. Written in clear and easy language, the book is furnished with a large number of diagrams. Colored explanatory arrows on the diagrams and the selection of individual pages with a colored background make the book easier to understand. Regular work solve two problems: deepen the student's knowledge and develop his tactical vision, thus improving his skill and results.

And of course, it includes games by Anatoly Karpov himself & mdash; a great expert on the Queen's Gambit, who generously shares with the reading his unique understanding of the concepts involved. Gezalyan

International Master Tibor Karolyi and FIDE Master Tigran Gozalyan have prepared a major work (in two volumes) about the life and work of the 9th world chess champion Tigran Petrosyan (he held the title from 1963 to 1969).  Volume II (1963-1984) tells about Petrosyan's victory in the 1963 world title match over Mikhail Botvinnik, about the grandiose two-match confrontation with Boris Spassky in 1966 and 1969, about all his candidates' matches after losing the title – against Bobby Fischer, Viktor Korchnoi and other world-class opponents. All tournaments and matches of the second half of Petrosian's chess career are presented, up to his last performances in 1983. The authors subjected 175 complete games and fragments to an in-depth analysis (using modern computers). Not all of them have been deeply studied and commented on before, but even then the book provides a significantly improved analysis. Among Petrosyan’s opponents – world champions and contenders Kasparov, Karpov, Fischer, Spassky, Tal, Smyslov, Botvinnik, Korchnoi and Bronstein, as well as Timman, Larsen, Reshevsky, Belyavsky, Polugaevsky, Portisch, Romanishin and many others. Special attention is paid to his coaches – Alexey Suetin and Igor Zaitsev.

In his new book, grandmaster Zenon Franco deeply analyzes the 69 instructive victories of the 11th world champion Robert Fischer. The book is not overloaded with options, the emphasis – with detailed explanations in a move-by-move style, creating an ideal platform for learning chess. In the "reference" At points in each game, the reader is offered test questions, which helps both the practical study of key techniques of the chess game and the reliable assimilation of acquired knowledge. With contributions by Eric Priй, Richard Palliser, Bogdan Lalic, Pavel Skatchkov / Dmitry Frolyanov, Ashot Nadanian and many others. Sosonko & Corner Genna Sosonko & amp; imagination was tickled by Vadim Zviagintsev & s bizarre knight move 2.Na3 in the Sicilian. It made by Alexander Khalifman laugh, but not for long ... The rim knight brought back some sweet memories to our editor and gathered up some old stories, which does not mean that it has no future! In addition to becoming immensely popular on the ICC and in the Moscow Blitz Championship, in a regular game such moves can be a tremendous psychological blow. Book Reviews Not quite the mainstream or the openings in Glenn Flear & s Review this this time. After all, you don & amp; t encounter Christan Bauer & amp; s favorite 1 ... b6 every day. The French GM & s monograph on this English Defense (!) Gets many points for its thorough and original content, though it leaves something to be desired in the structure department. Next is James Rizzitano & s & amp; Repertoire book & amp; (we get many of those these days) against 1.d4. A robust tome, although doubts remain if Rizzitano can fulfill his promise of beating & amp; White & amp; solid first move. Maybe that's just to much to ask ... or is it? The unlikely author couple Sverre Johnsen and Vlatko Kovacevic also want to & Win & amp; with the London System, but our reviewer was found to be quite balanced and objective. It & amp; s ideal for the stronger club player who wants a solid system without studying day and night. Boris Schipkov & s CD on the A80-A85 Dutch contains by nature much more material than a book, but also more mistakes. A nice feature is the Training Database with useful exercises. 32 NIC Surveys Yearbook 78 Sicilian Defense: Najdorf Variation 6.Be3 Ng4, by Lukacs / Hazai Sicilian Defense: Najdorf Variation 6.Be3 e6, by Nikitin Sicilian Defense: Grivas Variation 4 ... With contributions by Simon Williams, Efstratios Grivas, Jose Luis Vilela and many others. Sosonko & Corner 'Vam shakh, grossmeister' quipped Bobby Fischer before beating specialist Tigran Petrosian in blitz. Genna Sosonko shows in his Corner that a check in the opening can be devastating. The phenomenon seems to gain popularity. Our Editor comes with an entertaining mixture of old and new traps. Alexander Morozevich checked on move 3 in the Philidor in an internet blitz game. It could be lethal in bullet! Book Reviews Two more animals in the chess zoo feature in Glenn Flear & s Reviews: the venerable Bird and the idiosyncratic Hippopotamus. They are contrasted with the mainstream 1.e4 e5 openings and the King's Indian. Being an avid Ruy Lopez player himself, Flear eagerly read Nigel Davies's 'Play 1.e4 e5!' And found that Davies had some nice ideas: 'I might try a few out myself!' a grandmaster reviewer! Flear was also taken by Mikhail Golubev's personal view on the King's in his new book, analysing 56 of his own games. An entertaining, high-quality and original work, writes Flear. 'Rebellious material' and 'weird stuff' we find in Andrew Martin's 'The Hippopotamus Rises'. Our reviewer finds it original, but a little skimpy. Recommended for those who like the Hippopotamus, like to swim in muddy waters ... More thorough is Timothy Taylor's 'Bird's Opening', which is made by Flear Wonder why this 'Dutch with extra tempo' is so rare. Taylor does an alarmingly good - if over-the-top - job for White in From's Gambit. 32 NIC Surveys Yearbook 79 Sicilian Defense Najdorf Variation 6.Be3 e5 SI 14.8 Olthof Sicilian Defense Dragon Variation 9.Bc4 SI 18.3 Karolyi Sicilian Defense Scheveningen Variation 6.Be2 SI 24.8 Langeweg Sicilian Defense Sozin Variation 6.Bc4 SI 26.2 Golubev Sicilian Defense Rauzer Variation 6.Bg5 SI 28.3 Kuzmin Sicilian Defense Rossolimo Variation 4.Bb5 Qc7 SI 31.9 Greenfeld Sicilian Defense Paulsen Variation 5 ... Book Reviews Several publishers are completing coverage of all French variations as we speak. Glenn Flear compares them in his Reviews. But first he takes a good look at Konstantin Sakaev's new book on the 7.Bc4 Grünfeld and Konikowski / Soszynski's monograph on the KI Four Pawns Attack. Flear's amazement about Chess Stars's decision to come up with a revamped version of Sakaev's first Grünfeld tome of just 2 years ago, chess theory these days if you want to get down to the nitty-gritty. The authors' analysis level does not match that of a Sakaev, but as an insightful reference book. The comparison of Sam Collins's 'the French advance' with Steffen Pedersen's 'French: Advance and Other Lines' reveals some interesting insights.
